Raising Godly Children

A Biblical Guide for Parents and Church Family

Children are a precious heritage from the Lord, designed to be a blessing in our lives. While parenting can feel overwhelming, God has provided clear guidance on how to raise children who will follow Christ.

Why is Daily Biblical Teaching Important?

Teaching children about God shouldn’t be limited to Sunday mornings. Faith must be integrated into everyday conversations and life experiences. When homes don’t regularly discuss Jesus and the Bible, church can become confusing for children who only hear about God once a week.

Parents have the primary responsibility for their children’s spiritual development. While the church can support and reinforce, it cannot replace the daily discipleship that should happen at home.

How Should We Discipline Our Children?

Biblical discipline is an act of love, not punishment. The goal is to guide children toward righteousness, not simply enforce rules. While discipline may be uncomfortable in the moment, it yields “peaceful fruit of righteousness” when done properly.

Key principles for godly discipline:

  • Correct with patience, not anger
  • Balance love with appropriate consequences
  • Help children learn to deal with life’s challenges early
  • Remember that discipline prepares them for obedience to God

What Role Does Modeling Faith Play?

Children need to see authentic faith lived out daily. This includes:

  • Regular Bible reading and prayer
  • Worship and praise
  • Giving and serving
  • Waiting on the Lord
  • Talking about what God is doing in your life

Parents and church family alike must demonstrate what following Christ looks like. Children will often emulate the spiritual habits they observe in adults.

Life Application

This week, evaluate how you’re modeling faith for the children in your life:

  • Are you consistently demonstrating spiritual disciplines?
  • Do your actions align with what you teach about God?
  • Are you integrating faith discussions into daily life?

How can you better partner with your church family in raising godly children?

Challenge yourself to be more intentional about showing children what authentic Christianity looks like through your own walk with Christ. Remember that you’re not just keeping kids out of trouble – you’re preparing them for a life devoted to God.

Questions to Consider:

  • What spiritual habits do children see modeled in my life?
  • How can I better integrate faith discussions into everyday moments?
  • Am I disciplining from a place of love rather than frustration?
  • What support do I need from my church family to raise godly children?
